Event highlights

Walk the foliage promenade and take in the lakeside scenery

Every autumn, maples turn red at Asahigaoka Lakeside Green Park, where this festival offers a chance to stroll among the foliage. It has been held since 2006, at the lakeside green park in the Asahigaoka district, including Yuyake-no-Nagisa. Yuyake-no-Nagisa has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 Most Scenic Beaches.

As well as walking the roughly 1,000 m foliage promenade, you can explore the park’s walking paths. Benches with tables are also available, so you can sit down for a break between walks. Plan your walking pace and rest stops to suit your schedule, and take your time enjoying the autumn scenery.

There is a festival information desk at the venue entrance, where pamphlets and flyers are available. The Lake Yamanaka tourism information page also features “Autumn Leaves LIVE!”, which is updated throughout the festival period. Check it too if you would like to see the latest information before setting out.

Check the lighting hours and prepare for the evening chill

The published lighting hours are 4:30 pm to 8:30 pm. You can plan to see the illuminated foliage from late afternoon into the evening. These are the lighting hours, not the stated opening hours for the entire venue.

Admission is free. The organizers advise that it gets quite cold at night, so bring warm clothing and plan for both walking and breaks on the benches.

The festival dates and schedule may change due to weather or other circumstances. Check the official information when choosing your visit date and before setting out. Planning around the lighting hours and preparing for the cold will help you get ready for your visit.
