Event highlights

Layer 5 colors to bring the character festival scene to life

To participate, simply pick up a postcard at any of the stamp locations, slip it into the designated guide frame, and press the stamp. Each location features one specific color, making five colors in total. Once you have stamped your card at all five locations across the city, the complete illustration is revealed. Postcard sheets are available at each stamp point.

The finished picture depicts mascot characters having fun at a traditional festival. Walking through various neighborhoods of Toshima City, you can enjoy watching the scene come together with each added color. Each stamp location is surrounded by sightseeing spots, making this a great opportunity to take in the local streetscapes and culture along the way.

The mascot characters highlighted on the official website include Toshima Nanamaru, an owl character created to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Toshima City; Kobutan, an art-loving pig; Nayamimi and Suitori, characters representing children's consultation services; and Ike-chan, the mascot of the IKEBUS. Also featured are Sugamon from Sugamo Jizo-dori Shopping Street, Geisha-chan from Otsuka Sanyo-dori Shopping Street, and the Toshima City Tourism Association's official symbol. Learning about these friendly figures connected to different corners of the neighborhood adds an extra layer of fun to your walk.

From Ikebukuro to Zoshigaya, Minami-Nagasaki, and Sugamo: 5 Stamp Locations

The five stamp locations are the Ikebukuro East Exit Tourist Information Center (1st floor of Toshima Civic Center; black ink), Global Ring Cafe (inside Ikebukuro Nishiguchi Park; yellow ink), Zoshigaya Information Center (red ink), Tokiwaso Street Showa Retro Museum (Toshima City Showa History and Culture Memorial Museum; light blue ink), and Sugamo Community Cultural Creation Center (light orange ink). Explore distinctive neighborhoods like Ikebukuro, Zoshigaya, Minami-Nagasaki, and Sugamo while visiting nearby attractions along your route.

Operating hours vary by location. The Ikebukuro East Exit Tourist Information Center is open from 9:00 to 19:00, and Global Ring Cafe is open from 9:00 to 22:00 (until 21:00 on Sundays and public holidays). The Zoshigaya Information Center operates from 10:30 to 16:30, the Tokiwaso Street Showa Retro Museum from 10:00 to 18:00 (last admission at 17:30), and the Sugamo Community Cultural Creation Center from 9:00 to 21:30.

Closing days also differ by venue. The Zoshigaya Information Center is closed on Thursdays (open if a holiday falls on a Thursday), and the Tokiwaso Street Showa Retro Museum is closed on Mondays (or the following weekday if Monday is a holiday). The Ikebukuro East Exit Tourist Information Center closes during the year-end/New Year holidays and matches the closures of the Toshima Civic Center, while Global Ring Cafe is closed on New Year's Day. The Sugamo Community Cultural Creation Center is closed about once a month and over the year-end/New Year period. As hours and closures are subject to change, be sure to check the official website for the latest updates before heading out, and plan an itinerary that fits your pace comfortably.
