Autumn roses set against a field of purple flowers
In October, enjoy a field awash in deep purple in the crisp autumn air. The stars of the show are 20,000 amethyst sage plants bearing 300,000 blooms. Their velvety-looking flowers spread across the grounds, creating a scene to take in as a whole rather than simply admire one flower bed at a time.
Look closely at the number of flowers and the way their colors overlap to appreciate the character of the field as a whole, quite apart from each individual bloom. Taking photos against the purple flowers is another activity featured at the event. Allowing time both to wander among the flowers and to take a keepsake photo can help you plan your visit.
Autumn roses are another highlight. From early October to late November, 500 varieties and 2,500 rose plants are expected to be at their best, bringing the colors of amethyst sage and roses together in the same season. As you walk, look out for flowers of different colors and varieties and enjoy this seasonal display throughout the garden, not just the purple field.

Opening hours change on October 17. From that date, the daytime session runs from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The evening session runs from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on weekdays and from 3:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on weekends and public holidays. When choosing your visit date, check the hours and decide whether to focus on a daytime stroll among the flowers or include the evening session too.
From October 17 onward, visitors must leave by 3:00 p.m., and re-entry requires admission to the illumination event Garden of Light. Don’t assume you can stay on the grounds from your daytime visit through the evening. If you plan to combine the daytime and evening sessions, make separate plans for the departure time and re-entry requirements.
Regular admission is ¥400–¥800 for adults (junior high school age and older) and ¥200–¥400 for children (ages 4 through elementary school age), with prices varying according to the flowers’ blooming conditions. Admission to Garden of Light is ¥1,500 for adults and ¥800 for children. If you plan to visit the evening session too, budget for this in addition to regular admission.
