HIGHLIGHTS
Event highlights
In the main hall, part of the tatami flooring has been removed and replaced with an acrylic panel that reflects the garden’s autumn foliage upside down. One of the highlights is being able to admire the trees in the garden while also taking in their inverted image appearing in a section of the tatami floor. Alongside the autumn leaves themselves, look out for the ingenious use of the tatami flooring to reverse the view.
The “Upside-Down Autumn Leaves” display is open to the public only during the autumn foliage season. Take in the scene, described by the original source as “like a framed painting,” while looking out over the garden from the main hall.
In 2026, the display will be open from November 14 to 23, from 12:00 to 16:00. Plan your visit to fit within the afternoon viewing hours. Admission is 500 yen.
By train, take the Matsuura Railway from JR Sasebo Station; the journey takes about one hour. Get off at Emukaeshikamachi Station and walk about 10 minutes. By car, it takes about 20 minutes from Saza IC on the Nishi-Kyushu Expressway. Free parking is available for 60 cars.
