Event highlights
Get to know the residents before you visit
The exhibition celebrates the release of a short gag anime based on Majime ni Yaba City, a six-member gaming group active on YouTube. The story is set in Yaba City, a town where “seriously outrageous people” gather. The exhibition will feature photo spots and displays that can only be seen at the venue, but specific details of the exhibits have not been announced.
The anime began streaming on October 1, 2026, on the Majime ni Yaba City YouTube channel. It follows the antics of the town’s distinctive residents, who live among slightly strange and cheeky creatures. Watching the series before visiting may help you spot details in the exhibits while thinking about the characters’ personalities and backstories.
The mayor, Nekohiyoko, is a creature that is part cat and part chick. He hates work, and even when he pretends to be working, everyone can tell he is slacking off. Tonton is a parasitic mushroom that coexists with a human body. Although it wants to destroy humanity, it enjoys human food and has chosen to live alongside people. Tamao, a baseball that has come to life, is always cheerful and enjoys every situation.
Other characters include Fukin, a living dishcloth that cleans up dirt with its own body; Peace-ke, a pigeon that smokes; and Zomu (?), a mysterious creature shaped like a bowling ball that changes size. The voice cast includes Hina Kino as Nekohiyoko, Rie Hikizaka as Tonton (the mushroom itself), and Makoto Koichi as Tamao. Reiji Kawashima voices Fukin, Marina Inoue voices Peace-ke, Kenta Miyake voices Zomu (?), and Hikaru Midorikawa is the narrator.
